Here's what you can expect.
Build Your Portfolio Masterclass runs for four months. You also get on-demand access to the Complete Medical Writing Program (value $999), so you can work through any included courses at your own pace. These courses include guidance on using AI responsibly to support your writing process.
During the four-month course period, you will have fortnightly calls with Michelle, your mentor, where we review your progress, discuss your portfolio tasks and explore how AI tools can assist you ethically and effectively in research, drafting and structuring content
You'll work on your portfolio writing tasks between calls and receive ongoing feedback throughout the program. Your guide to a quality portfolio of health & medical writing samples – including guidance on using AI responsibly to support your writing workflow.
Week 1: Introductions and planning
We begin with a career coaching session and a comprehensive overview of the health writing industry. Together, we’ll determine your focus, discuss your niche, ideal clients or employers and the type of writing services you want to offer. We’ll also introduce how AI can support research, structuring and idea generation without replacing your professional judgement. You’ll learn the best way to work through your on-demand course access alongside your mentoring program.
Week 2: Setting your writing tasks
After clarifying your vision for your health & medical writing career, we finalise your portfolio program. You’ll identify eight writing tasks to showcase your skills and get paid work. At this stage, we’ll also explore where AI can ethically support your writing process – for example, brainstorming topics, outlining content, or checking readability – while keeping your voice and accuracy front and centre.
Weeks 3-14: Writing and workshopping
These weeks focus on producing your portfolio pieces. You’ll write your tasks, receive detailed feedback, address edits and re-submit until your mentor is confident that your work meets industry standards. You’ll also learn how to incorporate AI responsibly in drafting and revising tasks, using it to save time and improve clarity without compromising the quality or integrity of your work.
Weeks 15-16: Next steps, industry guidance, pitching advice
We wrap up your masterclass by putting an actionable plan in place, identifying your next steps and setting short- and long-term goals for your writing career. You’ll also review how to use AI as part of your ongoing workflow – including ethical considerations, client transparency and practical strategies for combining AI support with your professional expertise.
